Our Mission
Our mission is to develop tools for enhancing one of the most fundamental aspects of sound capture: microphone placement.
Meet The Team
DynaMount is family founded, owned, and operated by brothers Jon & Mike Russo in San Diego, CA.
Our Story
“Wouldn’t it be great if there was some kind of remote controlled device able to adjust the mic placement and recall positions?”
This was the question Jon Russo (CEO – guitarist) asked brother Mike Russo (CTO – drummer) one day as they were recording their own band at Jon’s home studio in San Diego, CA. Jon had recorded many local bands at this studio and was all too familiar with the challenges of mic placement. “Cool idea” they thought, and then went along struggling with returning the mic back to a preferred spot from earlier that, like a dropped guitar pick, seemed to be lost forever.
Fast forward a couple years and opportunity knocks. After refining his skills as an app developer, Mike decided to combine this skill set with those he picked up earning an Aerospace Engineering degree to create an initial prototype. It worked and at the same time demonstrated a proof of concept. The brothers did some research and were surprised to realize that while a few individuals had made their own custom mic placement devices, nobody had a design like theirs and nothing was commercially available.
Using their backgrounds in Economics and Aerospace Engineering the brothers jumped on the opportunity by self-funding and self-developing the next few prototypes. This then led to the creation of DynaMount LLC a year later in February 2015. With refined designs, a patent pending, and working apps they took their idea to Kickstarter in May of 2015. Buzz quickly grew through social media with help from some big names in the recording industry who were excited about the products. The Kickstarter campaign funded successfully having raised over 150% of the initial $30k goal.
The Kickstarter orders were fulfilled in December, 2015. By March, 2016, full production had begun.
Now, DynaMounts are available around the world. Numerous patents have been received, the gen2 line was launched at the end of 2020, and a new product focusing on broadcast mic steering applications has been released. Keep an eye out for what’s next, as we strive to continue creating modern technology to enhance classic techniques.
